APA brings together psychology clinicians, researchers, students, and educators for over 900 sessions and events that are dedicated to helping leaders shape the future of healthcare. Check out our key takeaways from this year’s convention.
Earlier this month, our team attended the APA 2024 Convention in Seattle, Washington, where we had the opportunity to meet with psychology clinicians, researchers, therapists, and educators, among others, to discuss where the industry is headed and how technology is helping drive innovation.
With an impressive lineup of over 900 sessions and events across three days, APA 2024 addressed the latest research, trends, and new developments in psychology. We’re at a pivotal moment in the healthcare industry and these conversations lay the groundwork for further advancement. We’re proud to have been a part of some of these important discussions that are shaping the future of the industry.
In this recap, I’ll break down some of the trending themes based on my time at APA 2024.
What Were the Trending Topics at the APA 2024 Convention?
Streamlining Processes With Technology
Throughout my conversations with hundreds of attendees at the convention, one topic remained consistent: leveraging technology to create efficient processes that allow practices to dedicate more time to patient care.
Most healthcare leaders recognize that they need to reduce the burden of administrative tasks like assessment forms, note-taking, billing, and more. The question is: how? With the growth of healthcare technology over the last 25 years, more and more practices are adopting cloud-based solutions that streamline the most time-consuming workflows. Because of this, they’re able to get time back in their day to focus on what they do best: improving patient outcomes.
The Intersection Between AI and Psychology
The APA 2024 Convention highlighted a variety of emerging trends, including one that has gotten a lot of buzz recently—artificial intelligence (AI).
With the rise of AI in healthtech, psychology practices are exploring how they can integrate these tools and resources into their everyday work. During the session, “Integrative Reality: Future of AI & Psychology,” attendees got a deep dive into AI trends and predictions while addressing some of the common concerns and opportunities associated with AI.
AI is still in the early stages, but it’s continuing to evolve as more practices adopt the tools and resources available to them. While AI has been known to streamline operations, reduce diagnostic errors, track health metrics, and more, it also presents challenges for data privacy, bias, and integration with existing tools. AI is not a one-size-fits-all solution, so it’s important that each practice understands their needs and what will improve the care they provide to patients.
